Exploring Nikkor

Exploring NIKKOR Lenses: Australia – AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II

On an assignment trip in Western Australia, professional Nikon photographer Scott A. Woodward and advanced amateur photographer Reuben capture motocross riders performing breath-taking stunts in the white sands of the Lancelin sand dunes. Using the versatile AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, they were able to capture all the action from a distance.

With a maximum aperture of f/2.8 across the entire focal length range, this lens is great for capturing stunning details and clarity, no matter the lighting condition. Its built-in Vibration Reduction (VR) system provides an effect equivalent to a shutter speed 3.5 stops*1 faster, which allows for steadier shots even while shooting with the camera handheld.

Using a longer focal length such as at 200mm will compress your scene and bring the background closer to your subject. This will narrow the perspective and help create a more flattering portrait shot.

The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II incorporates seven Extra-low Dispersion glass elements that help improve the flow of light, and Nano Crystal Coat to effectively minimise ghosting and flare effects, letting you achieve true-to-life colours in your images and videos.

*1 Based on CIPA Standard. This value is achieved when: FX-format lenses are attached to an FX-format digital SLR camera with the zoom set at the maximum telephoto position.
