The Correct Lens is Essential
Generally speaking, astrophotography lenses are required to have two main features which are both wide!
The first is a wide aperture, which allows your lens to take in as much light as possible from the night sky. We generally recommend f/2.8 or above.
As the night sky is a huge subject, we also recommend a wide focal length of 24mm or more. While it is possible to capture astrophotography on longer lenses, most nightscapes tend to feature the grand scale of the milky way or the night sky.

MC-CF660G CFexpress Memory Card
Certain techniques such as Star Trails or Timelapse shooting require shooting hundreds or even thousands of images in the same sequence.
Nikon’s large capacity, high speed CFexpress card ensures you can leave your camera running overnight without the worry of running low on storage.
Mount Adapter FTZ II
Have an older NIKKOR F Lens? The FTZ Adapter allows you to work with older lenses while still benefiting from the powerful speed of your Nikon Z Series Mirrorless Camera.
ML-L7 Bluetooth Remote Control
Astrophotography requires slow shutter speeds, so to avoid any camera shake it is best to use a remote control or timer. The ML-L7 Bluetooth Remote will wirelessly trigger your camera without the risk of you touching it, causing unwanted movement.
At 30% lighter than the previous F-Mount 105mm lens, the new NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S has amazing image stabilisation and is the sharpest macro lens I’ve ever used, from f/8 all the way to f/22.
