Nikon Releases The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR and NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7
Introducing a standard zoom lens for bokeh expression and low-light shooting and a standard micro to capture up-close shots in impressive detail
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 16 OCTOBER 2025 - Nikon Australia is pleased to announce the launch of two new lenses for APS-C size/DX-format mirrorless cameras: the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR, a standard zoom lens, and the NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7, a standard micro lens.
The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR
The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR is a standard APS-C size/DX-format zoom lens that covers the 16mm to 50mm1 range of focal lengths with a fast constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. It delivers the large, natural bokeh characteristics of the f/2.8 maximum aperture, and offers clear colour rendering with less colour bleed2 achieved through the superior optical performance of a NIKKOR Z lens, enabling highly artistic imaging expression.
From soft, beautiful rendering at the maximum aperture to sharp and high-resolution detail when the aperture is stopped down, users can explore a wide range of creative expression. The built-in lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) mechanism (5.0-stop compensation at the center of the frame equivalent to an increase in shutter speed3) effectively reduces the effects of camera shake, even when slower shutter speeds are used in low-light conditions. Despite its fast zoom specifications, this lens offers exceptional portability and ease of use, thanks to its compact design measuring approximately 88 mm in length and weighing around 330g. It also provides additional support for video recording with the adoption of a stepping motor (STM) that achieves quiet autofocus, and a design that suppresses focus breathing. This lens further strengthens the Nikon Z series, offering new options for APS-C/DX-format mirrorless camera users.

Primary Features
- The fast constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range allows for large, natural bokeh and reduces the effects of camera shake when shooting in low-light conditions.
- Coverage for the 16mm to 50mm4 wide-angle to mid-range of focal lengths supports a wide variety of scenes and subjects.
- A minimum focus distance of 0.15m at the wide-angle end and 0.25m at the telephoto end allows users to get extremely close to their subjects for dynamic shots.
- One ED glass and two aspherical lens elements effectively minimise various lens aberrations5.
- Equipped with a lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) mechanism with camera-shake compensation equivalent to a 5.0-stop (at the center)6 increase in shutter speed.
- A total length of approximately 88mm and weight of approximately 330g enables easy hand-held shooting.
- Adoption of a stepping motor (STM) realises quiet autofocusing.
- Optimised for video recording with a design that suppresses focus breathing.
- Functions such as focus mode (M/A), aperture, exposure compensation, or ISO sensitivity can be assigned to the built-in control ring for a smooth operational feel.
- When recording video using the Z50II, Hi-Res Zoom7 expands the zoom range to the equivalent of 16-100mm (6.25× zoom) while still maintaining a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 with no loss in resolution.
- Designed with consideration of dust and drip resistance8.
The NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7
The NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 is a fast, lightweight standard micro lens, and the first APS-C size/DX-format NIKKOR Z lens to achieve a maximum reproduction ratio equivalent to life-size9. The large bokeh characteristic of a fast f/1.7 prime lens enables the capture of even familiar subjects, such as accessories and pets, in impressive detail. The short minimum focus distance of 0.16m also allows users to get right up to their subject, making it possible to capture even small objects at a large size, all in beautiful, sharp detail.
The versatile 35mm10 focal length, with a standard angle of view similar to the human eye, makes it easy to shoot a wide range of scenes. From tabletop photography to portraits and casual snapshots, the NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 lens captures the finest of details.
Lightweight and convenient for everyday use, this standard micro lens is easy to carry while traveling, enabling users to explore a variety of shooting possibilities and enjoy a fresh creative experience.
Nikon will continue to push the boundaries of optical performance while addressing users’ needs, contributing to the evolution of imaging culture and expanding the possibilities for creative expression.
